Gathering spot offers slice of England

COEUR d'ALENE - The Having Our Say book club, which has met for more than 15 years, recently discussed "Marnie," a novel written by English author Winston Graham, at Abbotswood Bed and Breakfast.

Rosamund Barteau, Abbotswood owner and manager, is Graham's daughter. The bed and breakfast at 3620 N. Honeysuckle Drive, has an indoor pool and offers a slice of England.

Barteau offered insights into her father's works and her life in Cornwall.

From the book, Alfred Hitchcock made a film starring Tippie Hedren and Sean Connery.

He also made his Poldark novels into a series for "Masterpiece Theatre."

"These were so well-received that many Sunday evening church services were rescheduled so that people could watch each episode," said book club member Laurie Dixon.

The Poldark series will be re-released on DVD soon.

The 12-member book club has read hundreds of novels and non-fiction works. For more information, call 667-5608.
