MEN'S BASKETBALL

TWIN FALLS - A road win is a cherished commodity in the meat grinder which is the Scenic West Athletic Conference, so North Idaho College coach Jared Phay was quite happy that his 11th-ranked Cardinals came away with an 80-75 victory over Southern Idaho on Friday night.

"We guarded really well," Phay said. "Renado Parker played well offensively, and Guy-Marc (Michel) really controlled the paint."

Parker had 19 points and six rebounds for NIC (23-4, 13-4), which maintained a one-game lead in the conference over Salt Lake (21-6, 12-5). Michael Hale added 16 points, and Michel had nine points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks. Michel's layup with 7:44 left put NIC up 60-58, and the Cardinals were never headed.

B.J. Shearry and Taylor Stevens each played little due to foul trouble. Post Emeka Eweka (ankle) did not play and forward Nick Fromm (hip pointer) played six minutes.

"We were thin at the post, so we went with a smaller lineup," Phay said. "I thought we guarded well despite that."

Carrick Felix had 19 points and four blocked shots for CSI (18-9, 10-7).

The two teams play again today at 4 p.m. PST.
