Shock add WR

to 2010 roster

The Spokane Shock announced recently that wide receiver Justin Brown has been added to the 2010 roster and released wide receiver Cleannord Saintill.

Brown, 6-2 202, finished his collegiate career in 2008 at Hampton University. In his two seasons as a Pirate, Brown had 86 catches for 1,370 yards and 11 touchdowns and was named to the first team All-MEAC team.

"Brown is physically gifted with great size and speed," Shock coach Rob Keefe said. "His numbers in college combined with his size and speed caught the attention of a lot of NFL teams and I know that he will be a great asset to our team."

The Shock open the 2010 season on April 2 as they host the Milwaukee Iron on Spokane Tribe Field at the Spokane Arena. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling (509) 242-7462.

n Shock on TV: The Spokane Shock will play twice in front of a national audience, traveling to the Iowa Barnstormers on July 16 and hosting the Chicago Rush on July 23. Both games will be at 5 p.m. PST on the NFL Network.

Brown named

to WCC Hall

Former Gonzaga University men's basketball standout Jeff Brown has been named as one of the eight inductees for the second West Coast Conference Hall of Honor Class, which will be honored at this year's WCC Basketball tournament.

The 2010 WCC Hall of Honor brunch will be held on March 6 at 9 a.m. at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas. The inductees will also be honored the following day at the first men's semifinal game.

Brown was a three-year standout for the Gonzaga basketball team, who transferred to the Bulldogs from the University of Washington following his freshman year and became a three-year starter. A graduate of Mead High in Spokane, Brown graduated as the Greater Spokane League's career scoring leader with 1,576 points.

His senior year of high school, Brown averaged 24.8 points per game and 13.0 rebounds to lead the GSL in both catergories and set the Class AAA scoring record with 127 points in four games.

Brown is still listed in several statistical categories in the Gonzaga record books, ranking seventh on the Zags' career scoring list with 1,646 points, fifth in field goals made with 618, ninth in field goal percentage with 55.5 and fourth in free-throws made with 390.

As a senior during the 1993-94 season, Brown led the WCC in scoring at 21.0 points per game, leading the Bulldogs to a 22-8 record, their first WCC regular-season championship and a berth in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) for the program's first postseason appearance.

Brown is currently in private business in Spokane.

Also to be inducted will be: Brandi Chastain (Santa Clara soccer); Bo Kimble (Loyola Marymount basketball); Zuzana Lesenarova (San Diego tennis); Anja (Bordt) Suomalainen (Saint Mary's basketball); Joe Etzel (Portland); Gail Hopkins (Pepperdine baseball) and Bob St. Clair (San Francisco football).

Tickets are currently available for $40, and tables of 10 are available for $400.

NIC traveling to

Southern Idaho

North Idaho will conclude their six-game road trip this weekend as they travel to Scenic West Athletic Conference rival Southern Idaho on Friday and Saturday in Twin Falls starting at 4:30 PST.

The 11th-ranked Cardinal men (22-4, 12-4 SWAC) face the Golden Eagles (18-8, 10-6) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. NIC defeated Southern Idaho 80-69 on Jan. 8 and 80-73 on Jan. 9 at Rolly Williams Court. The Cardinals lead the SWAC standings by one game over Salt Lake, with Southern Idaho two games back in fourth place.

NIC's women (21-4, 12-4), ranked 18th in the latest polls, face CSI (18-8, 10-6) at 4:30 p.m. North Idaho is currently tied for first place in the women's standings with Salt Lake. Southern Idaho is tied for third place with Snow College (18-8, 10-6). North Idaho swept Southern Idaho their previous series, winning 66-54 on Jan. 8 and 76-62 on Jan. 9 at Rolly Williams Court.

North Idaho returns home Feb. 25 against Eastern Utah and rounds out the regular season Feb. 27 against Colorado Northwestern.

Cd'A wrestling club starting up

The Buzzsaw wrestling club will begin practices each Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene High wrestling room starting on March 2.

The club is open to kids in grades 3-12 and will focus on building wrestling skills needed to be successful at the collegiate and freestyle levels. Cost is free with the purchase of a USA wrestling card, which can be purchased at www.themat.com.

They will be coached by Jeff Moffat, head wrestling coach at Coeur d'Alene, Kelly Moffat, Coeur d'Alene coach and Tony Hook, Coeur d'Alene coach and former NCAA qualifier for Oregon State and Pac-10 champion.

The club will compete in local, state, regional and national tournaments.
