North Idaho batters Spartans

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Shelby Gonzales had a two-run home run in the top of the first to kick off two lopsided victories as North Idaho College swept Colorado Northwestern 12-0 and 12-3 on Monday for four straight wins against the Spartans to wrap up a series of games in southern Utah.

Gonzales finished 3 for 4 with four RBIs in Game 1 and Alyssa Erickson picked up the win on the mound. She allowed five hits and no earned runs in a five-inning game.

Jessica Ross went 4 for 4 with three RBIs for the Cardinals (12-8, 9-3 SWAC) and Lauren Maloney, Amanda Krier, Brittany Chestnut and Briggett Plenger each scored two runs.

In the second game, NIC broke out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning, and a seven-run fifth put the game away.

Kathy Comack picked up a victory, striking out four and throwing five innings of two-run ball.

Lindsey Stark had a two run double in the first, and finished with four RBIs, while Juliann Hartnett knocked in three.

Stark also had two RBIs in the fifth.

NIC is set to host doubleheaders vs. Western Nevada at Memorial Field on Friday and Saturday.
