Two attempted break-ins reported

A pair of attempted break-ins were reported in the 2300 block of North 12th Street early Monday.

According to one victim, someone rang their doorbell about 1 a.m., and when she looked outside, she saw a man in dark clothing walking across her driveway. The man shined a flashlight into a car parked on the street before leaving, according to a police report.

About 40 minutes later, the victim and her husband heard a loud crash in their kitchen. When they checked, they found the right half of their glass slider door was shattered. They did not see anyone around.

The victim told police she thought she recognized the man she saw earlier as someone who lived nearby.

Police went to the suspect's house. He said he had not heard anything suspicious during the night and said he didn't know about the broken slider door.

Later that morning at another home on the same block, a resident said she heard footsteps going down the stairs to her basement. She then locked the main door that leads from the main floor to the garage.

"Moments later, someone started to attempt to open this main door," the report said.

The suspect left the scene and police were called.

An investigation continues.
