Group to deliver singing Valentines
COEUR d'ALENE - Herb Severtson knows a sure-fire way to show your love on Valentine's Day.
Better yet, have the Mellow Men quartet do the singing.
"Nobody is ever unhappy receiving a singing valentine," Severtson said with a smile.
The Mellow Men from the Lake City Harmonizers, along with a few other quartets, will be singing love songs on demand starting Friday and continuing through Valentine's Day on Sunday.
It's a fundraiser for the group that on Wednesday donated $500 to Fresh Start, a nonprofit committed to helping the homeless.
"It's people like those guys that keep us afloat," Brooks said.
Severtson will be joined by fellow Mellow Men Ben Sturgeon, Mike Bolek and Fred Meier in belting out favorites like "I Love You Truly."
It's something the Harmonizers have been doing for more than a decade, visiting homes, businesses, schools and restaurants to serenade someone's sweetheart with words of passion and devotion.
"It's so much fun," Meier said. "You visit with people and enjoy embarrassing someone and enjoy the love that transpires between the couple."
Sturgeon said he loves to sing.
"As long as I sing, I'm happy," he said.
For $40, they'll sing two songs, and deliver balloons, candy and a card. They're hoping to perform more than 100 singing telegrams. Proceeds will help fund such donations as the one to Fresh Start.
"It's nice when we can do things like this, so we can make a difference," Meier said.
