Vikings off to Lewiston - again
Second-ranked Coeur d'Alene (18-3) travels to fourth-ranked Lewiston (18-2) tonight at 7 at Booth Hall in the championship game of the 5A Region 1 girls basketball tournament.
The winner advances to the state tournament Feb. 18-20 at the Idaho Center in Nampa.
No. 4 seed Post Falls (13-8) plays at No. 3 Lake City (14-7) tonight at 7 in a loser-out game. The winner plays at the Coeur d'Alene-Lewiston loser on Friday for the region's second berth to state.
n Lakeland (9-14) plays at Moscow (6-15) tonight at 7 in the championship game of the 4A Region 1 girls basketball tournament.
If Moscow wins, the Bears qualify for the state tournament Feb. 18-20 at Mountain View High in Meridian.
If Lakeland wins, the teams play again Friday at 7 p.m. in Moscow for a berth to state.
"That's the goal," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "It is what it is. In a perfect world, we would have won last Thursday. We're taking it one game at a time. Right now - we are excited to go down there again."
n The 3A District 1-2 girls basketball tournament tips off tonight at Lakeland High in Rathdrum with a pair of loser-out games - No. 3 seed Kellogg (13-7) vs. No. 6 St. Maries (4-13) at 6 p.m., and No. 4 Orofino vs. No. 5 Bonners Ferry (8-12) at 7:30.
On Wednesday, No. 2 Priest River (14-6) plays the Kellogg-St. Maries winner at 6 p.m., and No. 1 Timberlake (16-2) faces the Orofino-Bonners Ferry winner at 7:30.
The championship game is Friday at 8 p.m., with the winner advancing to state Feb. 18-20 at Skyview High in Nampa. The winner of the second-place game on Saturday at 7 p.m. also advances to state.
Orofino (8-8) did not play a full league schedule, and was seeded fourth to districts based on results vs. common opponents.
n Lakeside (8-10) plays host to Wallace (7-13) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Plummer for the 1A Division I District 1 championship. The winner plays the third-place finisher from the District 2 tournament on Saturday for a berth to state.
