Lakeland falls short of trip to state
GIRLS BASKETBALL
MOSCOW - Abi Quinnett had 15 points for the Moscow Bears as they advanced to the state 4A tournament with a 32-17 win over the Lakeland Hawks at Bear Den on Tuesday night.
"We had a hard time scoring," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "Defensively, we did a fantastic job holding them to 22 points in the first three quarters - it's what we were trying to do. Unfortunately, we weren't looking to hold ourselves to eight points in that same time."
Emily Stecker had four points and Ciena Close four steals for the Hawks, who finish the season 9-15.

RATHDRUM - Chelsea Morgan had 14 points to lead the Wildcats past the Lumberjacks in the opening round of the 3A District 1 tournament at Lakeland High.
Ryder Ashcraft had 13 points and Shayna Waechter 11 rebounds and eight points for Kellogg (14-7), which will face Priest River tonight in a semifinal at 6 p.m.
In the other semifinal, Timberlake will face Bonners Ferry at 7:30, after the Badgers eliminated Orofino with a 63-36 win.
Marlee Masterson had seven points for St. Maries, which finishes the season 4-14.

LEWISTON - Thomas Tucker (215), Alex Kastens (285) and Steve Price (103) earned consecutive pins for Coeur d'Alene early in the night and the top-ranked Vikings rode the momentum to a win over Lewiston, wrapping up the Inland Empire League title with a 4-0 record.
"Lewiston is a tough place to get a win, but I thought we were aggressive and did most of the offensive shooting," Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. "It's nice to get the regular season out of the way and get ready for the postseason."
Coeur d'Alene competes in the district tournament Feb. 19 and 20 at Lakeland High.
