NIC returns from bye week

against Colorado Northwestern

The North Idaho College men’s and women’s basketball teams return from their bye week tonight as they travel to Colorado Northwestern in a Scenic West Athletic Conference matchup in Rangely, Colo.

The fourth-ranked Cardinal men (20-2, 10-2 SWAC) are 2-0 this season vs. Colorado Northwestern (1-20, 1-12), winning the last matchup 92-58 at Rolly Williams Court on Jan. 14. NIC leads Salt Lake (18-5, 9-4) by 1 1/2 games.

NIC’s women (18-3, 9-3), ranked 17th in the NJCAA polls, are 2-0 vs. the Spartans (2-17, 0-13), including a 114-71 win at home Jan. 14.

NIC plays at Eastern Utah on Saturday in Price. CEU’s men (14-8, 8-5) are in third place in the SWAC, and the CEU women (7-16, 3-10) are in fifth.

Shock sign one

wideout, deal another

SPOKANE — Wide receiver Willie Quinnie has been added to the Spokane Shock’s Arena Football 1 roster, and the Shock have traded wide receiver Terry Moss to the Alabama Vipers for future considerations.

Quinnie (6-foot-2, 180 pounds) is a two-year AFL veteran who also has professional experience in the NFL (San Diego Chargers, Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Falcons), NFL Europe (Rhein Fire), and the CFL.

Most recently, Quinnie spent the 2007-08 season with the Colorado Crush. In his rookie year, Quinnie recorded 72 receptions for 844 yards with 14 touchdowns. The following season, Quinnie tied for the team lead in touchdown receptions (30) and collected 123 receptions for 1,256 yards.

The Shock open the season April 2 at home vs. the Milwaukee Iron.

Vandals to play Long Beach State

in ESPN BracketBuster

The pairings for the eighth annual BracketBuster event have been announced and Idaho’s men’s basketball team was selected to face Long Beach State in a home game on Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m.

The game will not be televised.

Long Beach State (10-11, 4-4 Big West Conference) is coached by Dan Monson, the son of Vandal coaching legend Don Monson.
