Miracle on ice?

| December 30, 2010 8:00 PM

AVONDALE LAKE - Bill Stookey has lived in his Avondale Lake home for 20 years. Earlier this month as he glanced out toward the water, he stopped, stared, and wondered.

"I've never seen it before," he said.

What he saw about noon on Dec. 5 appeared to be a few snowflake designs in the ice-covered lake about 100 yards from the shoreline.

He snapped a few pictures with his Canon PowerShot and then questioned what exactly caused this mysterious frozen figure.

"Maybe it's God's handiwork," said the retired airline captain.

Stookey rejected one theory that these were ice-fishing holes and snow had covered the tracks. He also turned thumbs down on the notion it was vegetation against the ice.

"These are too far from shore to be plants," he said.

The next day, the unexplainable patterns were gone, washed away by Mother Nature's touch.

Stookey remain convinced it may have been a miracle of sorts from above.

"It seemed like an incredible thing," he said.
