Tip leads to arrest in theft case

COEUR d'ALENE - A Hayden Lake man was arrested Friday morning after police discovered 107 pieces of mail and presents he had allegedly stolen from local mailboxes, according to a press release from the Coeur d'Alene Police Department.
Joseph Michael Omasters, 43, was charged with grand theft when police responded to a citizen's tip at 2:55 a.m., police said. Officers arrived at the 3200 block of Manning Loop and found a vehicle that matched the citizen's report.
Police searched the vehicle and found items from 50 addresses throughout the Coeur d'Alene/Hayden area.
The value of recovered stolen property is in excess of $1,275, in addition to numerous holiday cards, photos and letters, police said.
