Cougars battle back, topple Santa Clara in OT
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Klay Thompson hit a key 3-pointer in regulation and scored seven of his 23 points in overtime as Washington State rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to beat Santa Clara 85-79 Sunday night.
DeAngelo Casto scored five of his 15 points in the extra period for the Cougars (8-1), who won their third straight. He also had 10 rebounds.
Marcus Capers made all five of his shots and scored a season-high 14 points. Reggie Moore scored a season-high 15 points in his fourth game back from a wrist injury.
Kevin Foster scored a season-high 29 points for the Broncos (6-6) of the West Coast Conference, who lost at home for the second time in seven games. Marc Trasolini had 18 points and Evan Roquemore 16.
Thompson, the Pac-10's leading scorer, struggled for most of the night but hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds remaining in regulation to tie it at 71.
WSU now heads to Hawaii, where the Cougars play Mississippi State on Wednesday in the first round of the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu.
