PEARL: Event at Lakes a gem

| December 12, 2010 9:00 PM

The Pearl Harbor remembrance at Lakes Middle School this week was a demonstration of what is right about the 15th Street landmark. Students and staff teamed up to research history, gathering stories from old-timers and survivors, filming interviews of aging veterans and turning out an outstanding program in their gym. Exhibits of endless memorabilia was nicely displayed around the room.

Some of the memories generated tears and all of the planning and stories proved what is right about America, even in time of war. I personally was touched because as an observer of the 1941 bombing I was reminded of why history counts. The staff and students of Lakes deserve to be recognized for their value to our community. Their teamwork and performance of heartfelt concern for the past was unforgettable.
