Vikings silence Badgers, cannon
BONNERS FERRY - At the new, lighted, soccer complex at Bonners Ferry, the locals like to shoot off a cannon when the home team scores.
On Thursday night, thanks to Adam Borsheim, the Coeur d'Alene Vikings kept the cannon quiet.
Borsheim, a junior, scored all five goals as Coeur d'Alene blanked the Badgers 5-0.
"That was in our pregame speech," Viking coach Jeff Lake said of giving the locals no reason to shoot off the cannon. "Because it is loud."
Besides, Borsheim made enough noise on his own for Coeur d'Alene (1-0-1). Despite being double-teamed by Bonners Ferry, he increased his goal total for the season to eight in just two games.
"They were double-marking him ... but he's just a good player. He's just a skilled player," Lake said.
Center back Grant Stimmel led the defensive effort for Coeur d'Alene, which opens 5A Inland Empire League play Monday at home vs. Post Falls.
