Sen. John Goedde, R-Coeur d'Alene, has been named co-chairman of the National Conference of State Legislatures' Education Committee. Massachusetts Senator Richard Moore made the appointment that was announced on Tuesday.

"Senator Goedde brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to the table," said Moore, president of the NCSL. "I am pleased that he has accepted the appointment, and I look forward to his valuable contributions to state public policy over the next year."

The Education Committee is one of 12 standing committees of the bipartisan NCSL, an organization that serves legislators and all state staffs by providing research and technical assistance to policymakers dealing with state issues, and representing states' interests on Capitol Hill and within the administration.

NCSL policies stress three themes: opposition to unfunded federal mandates, prevention of unnecessary preemption of state laws, and protection of state revenue sources.

"I am honored to represent the interests of state legislatures in the continuing debate over the changing state-federal relationship," Goedde said.

Goedde has represented District 4 in the Idaho State Senate since 2000, and is seeking a sixth term in November.

He has chaired the Idaho Senate Education Committee for the past six years and has served on the committee for ten years. Prior to his election to the Idaho State Senate, Goedde served three years as a Coeur d'Alene School District Trustee. Goedde sits on the University of Idaho - Coeur d'Alene Advisory Board and on the North Idaho College Foundation Board.
