PROJECT: Bad decision to play out
Project CDA achieved AYP status as printed in The Press Aug. 4. It has been several years that the district's alternative school has reached this status, Mrs. Bauman reported. Kudos to Mr. Ferguson and staff for their leadership and dedication helping these students to excel.
In May 2010, Project received the Governor's Brightest Star Award. There were 600 nominations for this award and 67 were presented. The 110 students and 12 teachers completed 450 hours of service work within a year. Again this is accomplished when there is leadership and encouragement from Jim Ferguson and his staff.
This spring a decision was made to remove Mr. Ferguson to an elementary counselor position. The new principal of Project will be Rosie Astorquia. She will hold her job at the District Office which is a full-time position and be at the helm of Project. I worked in the district 15.5 years and there wasn't a principal that didn't work a 24/7 week. What a sad decision for the students, staff and taxpayers.
