LETTER: Comments not meant literally

| August 8, 2010 10:50 AM

Regarding my recently published letter "FDIC: A drain on law enforcers," I really messed this one up! If The Press couldn't get the meaning behind my snide comments, I don't know how I expected anyone else could.

In my letter I was referring to the federal government's refusal to enforce laws against illegal immigration. If the federal government wants to pick and choose which federal laws should be enforced, then they have put law enforcement in a very difficult position and are failing American citizens. The federal government is suing Arizona for trying to protect the citizens of Arizona.

Yet, the feds expect local law enforcement to enforce other federal laws, answer trouble calls and arrest violators.

I wouldn't blame local law enforcement and law enforcement officers in Arizona if they just threw up their hands and gave the whole mess right back to the feds.

My comment about not answering calls of FDIC insured banks was not serious. It was an example of how feds expect help in enforcing some laws while expecting that other laws will be ignored. You know the old saying, "Where's a cop when you need one?" Well, "don't call us, call Washington!"

I also said in my other letter, that our officers and sheriff's deputies were too honorable to refuse to answer a call for help so we really don't have to be concerned about them not responding.

Thank you Coeur d'Alene Press for allowing me to clarify this.
