Rife holds lead

COEUR d'ALENE - Dan Rife of Carlin Bay continues to hold the lead in the 26th annual Big One Chinook Derby.

Rife's 22.34-pound chinook he caught Thursday morning remains in first and in line for the $5,000 top prize.

Dawn Nolan came close to moving into the lead with the 21-pound chinook she hooked Friday in Lake Coeur d'Alene.

All told, 20 adults have weighed in fish in the derby's first two days. The derby ends Sunday.

First place in the derby put on by the Lake Coeur d'Alene Anglers Association is good for $5,000. Second is $3,000 and third, $1,000. There are daily prizes of $500 for first, $300 for second and $100 for third. The largest pike minnow lands the angler $25 a day.

Derby tickets are $25 for adults, while youth 13 and under are free. They're available at Fins & Feathers, Black Sheep and Wholesale Sports.

Weigh stations are at Sun Up Bay, Carlin Bay, Huttons Resort and Fins and Feathers.
