SOFTBALL

SPOKANE - The Coeur d'Alene Crush '97 split games Thursday night, defeating the Southern California Heaters 11-9 before falling to the Oregon Fever 1-0 in the ASA Western "A" national tournament at the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex.

In the first game, Bryce Catt went 3 for 3 with six RBIs and JaeCie Wilson went 4 for 5 with three runs scored for Coeur d'Alene.

Analisa Raynor had two hits against the Oregon Fever.

Coeur d'Alene will play a loser-out game tonight at 8, with its opponent to be determined by earlier games in the day.

The USA Athletics defeated the Northwest Wildfire 9-1 in a championship bracket game at the Dwight Merkel Athletic Complex.

Thea Fuhs and Rummor Walker had hits for the Wildfire, who return to action today at 9 a.m. in a loser-out game.

BASEBALL

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - The Post Falls Juniors (13-14) dropped to 1-2 in pool play following an 18-5 loss to El Monte of Southern California in the Western Regional tournament.

"We kind of ran into a buzzsaw of good hitters," Post Falls coach Chad Davenport said. "We scored a couple of runs early and had some chances early on. This team was pretty good."

Griffey Swift-Olsby allowed three runs in relief for Post Falls, which takes on Hilo, Hawaii, today at 12:30 p.m.
