The Dinner Party offers tableware, unique gift items and an array of wines. About a year-and-a-half ago owners George Balling and Mary Lancaster began selling custom wine cellars, a product they are happy to build, customize and stock.

"The design of each wine cellar can be as personal as the client's favorite type of wine," Balling said. "We can build simple rack cellars or elaborate caves from the south of France."

Pricing for these personal wine cellars varies, ranging from a few hundred dollars for a basic cellar built mostly by the customer to well over a few thousand dollars for a fully custom cellar designed and built for the customer.

Balling carries two types of wine storage, a basic wine rack and a rack made by Vintage View, based in Colorado, which allows the wine label to show.

"The biggest challenge is helping the client to formulate in their own mind, what they want to do," Balling said.

Building custom wine cellars can create problems with the variety of exotic bottle shapes, he said. The larger or wider bottles are often too large for the wine racks.

"What we're trying to help people with is figuring out their wine storage problems, making it as custom as possible while also staying within budget constraints," Balling said.
