Gems wins state AA Legion title

BOISE - Playing on their home field, the Boise Gems beat the Twin Falls Cowboys 8-7 in the championship game of the state AA American Legion baseball tournament Saturday night at Timberline Park.

The Gems, coached by former Coeur d'Alene High standout Larry Price, advance to the Northwest Regional at Gonzaga University in Spokane beginning Thursday.

The Gems also won state titles in 2008 and '06.

Earlier Saturday, Twin Falls eliminated the Boise Capitals. The Capitals placed third. The Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen, ousted by Twin Falls on Friday, placed fourth.

Shock's first playoff game to kick off Friday at 8 p.m.

SPOKANE - The Spokane Shock's first-round Arena Football League playoff game at home vs. Arizona on Friday has been schedued for 8 p.m., the Shock announced.

The NFL Network announced it will televise Orlando at Jacksonville on Friday at 5 p.m.
