Program focuses on hydroplane history

| April 17, 2010 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - The Museum of North Idaho is hosting its annual banquet and program at the Hayden Lake Country Club at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Doug Miller will present photos and discuss the hydroplane races on Lake Coeur d'Alene, drivers and boats from 1958 to 1968 when the races ended, as well as the behind the scenes and the workings of the Coeur d'Alene Unlimited Hydroplane Association.

He will talk about the challenges they faced in bringing the races to Coeur d'Alene, why there were no races in 1967 and why 1968 was the last year hydroplanes raced on Lake Coeur d'Alene.

Reservation must be made by Saturday, April 17. The buffet style dinner is $30 and reservations can be made by calling the Museum of North Idaho at 664-3448.

The speaker portion of the program starts at 8 p.m. and is open to the public at no charge, but please make reservations to ensure adequate seating.

The public is welcome.
