Teens will take over the library on Saturday

COEUR d'ALENE - For many things in life there's not much advantage to being a teenager. The Coeur d'Alene Public Library wants to change that. On Saturday, April 17, from 5-8 p.m. teens will have exclusive use of the library as part of the local observance of national Library Week. "Exclusively for Teens" will offer other things that adults and children can get during the week. Kids in grades 7-12 can come to the Community Room to enjoy free pizza and karaoke with professional KJ Todd Alexander. The event will feature free door prizes such as tasty treats from The Coeur d'Alene Resort, gift cards and novelty items.

The event will feature free door prizes such as tasty treats from The Coeur d'Alene Resort, gift cards and novelty items.

Check-out services will be available during the event.

The library is normally closed after 4 p.m. on Saturdays. For this special activity participants are asked to use the library's lower entrance. Parking is available on the McEuen Field side of City Hall.

April 17 is also the deadline for entries in the "3-Minute Teen Film Festival." Entry forms are available at the library or by download at www.cinlibraries.org.

Also on Saturday the library will host a free kite building workshop beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room. Participants are then invited to fly their kites at McEuen to the music of the Taiko Drums of Spokane, a Japanese-style drumming group.

Also as part of National Library Week, the library has introduced the "Virtual Book Club." Copies of the books, "The Art of Racing in the Rain," a novel by Garth Stein, or "The Big Burn," by Jeanette Ingold are still available to check out. Ingold is participating in the book discussion which can be accessed through the library's Web site.

"Exclusively for Teens" is sponsored by The Friends of the Library, The Coeur d'Alene Resort, Fred Meyer, Donut House, Garlic Jim's Gourmet Pizza and Karaoke Jockey Todd Alexander.
