CEUR: Misspelling stamped in history

| April 9, 2010 10:00 PM

Every year in July my husband and I look forward to traveling north to visit your beautiful city of Coeur d’Alene. We arrive just before my father’s birthday; he’ll be 83 this summer. We enjoy the sights and sounds of both Fernan and Lake Coeur d’Alene. I photograph wildlife; shop downtown and enjoy eating at numerous restaurants.

Last summer after enjoying a wonderful meal at your Coeur d’Alene Brewery, we walked around the block and I took a picture — “CEURDALENE AVE.” I was curious to know if anyone was aware of this incorrect spelling of Coeur d’Alene Avenue stamped on your sidewalk?

Was the original ‘French’ spelling of Coeur d’Alene different or was this a mason’s error? I find myself humming the tune … “On the Street Where You Live” each time I look at this photo!

We’re looking forward to once again enjoying your beautiful city in a few short months.
