Russell Grove putts on the eighth hole during the second round of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club on Friday in Pittsford, N.Y. For the second straight round, the North Idaho College men’s and women’s golf coach shot 9-over-par 79 for a 158 total and missed the 36-hole cut. 
He began Friday by finishing the final five holes of Thursday’s round, which was suspended by darkness, and bogeyed 14 and 17 coming in.
Starting his second round from the 10th tee,  Grove bogeyed 11 and double-bogeyed 12, then sank a 9-foot birdie putt on the 317-yard 14th hole. He bogeyed 16 and 18. On the front side, he doubled 2 and 6, and bogeyed 3.
Grove, who played at Coeur d’Alene High and the University of Idaho, was playing in his first major.
Grove, 37, a former assistant pro at Avondale Golf Club and Twin Lakes Village, qualified for the PGA with a top-20 finish (T-11th) at the PGA Professional Championship April 30-May 3 in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.
