Three teen athletes from Crossfit Cd’A’s Heart & Barbell Club have qualified for the national junior weightlifting championships in Spokane Feb. 15-18. From left are Vince Russo, Tyler Carlock and Shay Carlock.
Russo, 17, is dual-enrolled at Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy and North Idaho College. He competed at USA Weightlifting youth nationals in 2017, and was a 2017 Idaho state champion in the 62 kg weight class. He holds three state junior records in the 62 kg weight class — 99 kg clean and jerk, 74 kg snatch and 173 kg total.
Shay Carlock, 17, is dual-enrolled at NIC and the STEM Academy in Rathdrum. She finished ninth at the 2017 Youth World Championships, has earned 12 national-level medals, is a two-time state champion, and currently holds 15 state records.
Tyler Carlock, 15, attends Lakeland High. He finished fourth at 2017 youth nationals. He is a state champion and currently holds three state records.
Shay Carlock coaches Tyler and Vince; Derek Hutchinson is another Crossfit coach.
