OPINION: Just like everyone else, Idaho’s Attorney General must comply with the law
Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
MINE: The human cost
I have been reading articles that have statements from Phil Baker and Luke Russell, and I keep seeing them mentioning how the Lucky Friday Mine is Hecla’s “highest cost mine.” After reading this over and over again…
LUXURY: Remember poor, too
For some time I have been concerned about the trend to fill every available building space in the downtown area with “luxury” high end and expensive condos and apartments. Think Shady Pines replacement and the prop…
DOG PARK: Responsibility missing
I recently visited the dog park near Cherry Hill. I remember it as being a clean, pleasant place to take my dog. The park is a literal cesspool. At the first gate there is about 8 inches of standing water. Walking …
STRIKE: Support the miners
Steve Gregory and I, of Sunwood’s Cowboy Bar-B-Q, did our good deed for the day by providing lunch for many of the miners working the picket line at the Lucky Friday Mine. Being solid union guys, Steve and I had to…
FENCE: An expensive statement
A recent letter pointed out that the “wall” on our southern border will be only a “statement.” I agree with that idea, and I think that is precisely Mr. Trump’s purpose. A statement.
CATHOLIC: Attacks old news
A very interesting letter from Arnie Anton in the March 12 issue of the Coeur d’Alene Press. Mr. Anton is in serious need of some education.
HEALTH: Yep, it's complicated
Trump: “Nobody Knew Health Care Could Be So Complicated.” Certainly, when someone who is as well educated and intelligent as Trump makes such a statement, we should be alarmed. Obviously, it’s true because only 60+…
LIQUOR: License changes needed
I definitely do not agree with Dave Pulis’ March 10 letter regarding the Liquor License Reform Plan. First of all, this is not about big business trying to influence law, this is more likely about small business ow…
MARRIAGE: Religion unhitched
The following remarks are not in support of The Hitching Post specifically, but to the position that the Christian must violate Biblical teachings and requirements in order to accommodate the desires of the Pagan s…
MEDICAL: Walk the talk
Could it not be any simpler? Have ALL our politicians forfeit ALL their medical benefits immediately. Stop all the talking and gesturing. Since they are all elected by we the people, then it is time they started ta…
WORD: Writer defends use
Shanna V. Bublitz’s recent diatribe about the use of a word “Libitard” really uses many of the talking points of the political correctness police. The word LIBITARD, pronounced LIB IT T.A.R.D. We all know what it i…
AHCA: A new nickname
Only the Republicans could be proud of replacing ObamaCare… with DonaldDoesn’tCare!
AHCA: Bad for seniors
Lawmakers in Washington, D.C., are considering a bill that would drive up health care costs by thousands of dollars a year for Americans ages 50-64. This onerous “age tax” threatens to cut people’s access to care a…
WORD: It's just offensive
As a citizen of Coeur d’Alene, the state of Idaho and the United States of America, I believe that everyone can participate in the dialogue that helps each of us to understand others. I also read Mr. Kerwin’s lette…
LAKE: A bleak outlook
Having read the unreferenced opinions of Ed Javorka’s less than optimistic view of Lake Coeur d’Alene’s future in his March 11 My Turn, I came to the conclusion that I needed to see if there was information on the …
