OPINION: Just like everyone else, Idaho’s Attorney General must comply with the law
Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
MEETING: A pearl of a man
On July 15, my wife and I, along with our friends, one being an Air Force Vet, were at a local Dairy Queen. We met a person few people get to meet anymore.
VETERAN: Who we are
I take objection with Bob Hunt’s definition of who he stated is a veteran! A veteran gave/gives “military service” for our country. There are five, not seven as he mentioned…Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast…
JUNKIES: The real story
Regarding the July 11 front page article on use of Narcan spray by Post Falls P.D., I will refer to the heroin addict as John the Junkie, or JJ. An educated guess as to what happened to JJ after the officers saved …
TAXES: One-way delay
On behalf of all property taxpayers of Coeur d’Alene, I offer “A Modest Proposal” (apologies to Jonathan Swift). I propose that the city of Coeur d’Alene delay the due date for payment of property taxes by at least…
DMV: Budget problem solved
In a letter to the editor (DMV: Wait can lead one to drink, June 15, 2011) I complained about the long wait at the Drivers License Bureau. Then Sheriff Ben Wolfinger's answer was to arrive around 7 a.m. on weekdays…
VENDORS: Killing local business
I own a small eatery downtown. Every business owner in this area struggles to keep our doors open through the cold months. We look forward to warm, sunny days and the increase in sales.
POEM: For true friends
The following is a poem (author unknown) that I would like to dedicate to “Lulu” and her owner Callie Edelman (Press, July 6). I know firsthand what it’s like to have your “best friend” euthanized.
LETTERS: Eradicate the hate
Your paper is always saying how you wish people would try and speak with a little bit of kindness in their letters, and then you publish this Gressler’s moronic ramblings about his hate for the present president of…
TAXES: Count your blessings
Are you, like most of us, concerned about the amount we must pay each year in property taxes? I just read an article in the Wall Street Journal that said, “The tax bill on a $300,000 home in Hartford, CT. is $22,28…
CONSUMER: Big thanks, Bill
I am one of your loyal subscribers to the Coeur d’Alene Press. A few months back I suffered a financial blow when I found out through Bill Brooks, CDA Press Consumer Guy, that Positive Changes was permanently closi…
MEDIA: Public enemy? Hardly
The mainstream, legitimate, media was never more needed in the history of our nation than right now. They sometimes make mistakes but usually (maybe always) correct those, unlike alternate forms of media. The found…
POLITICS: Analytic opportunity
Earlier this year I was invited to join several prominent Idaho conservatives at a local seminar sponsored by Market Research Foundation (MRF). MRF is a nationally recognized organization specializing in predictive…
WATER: Sweet in summer
I have lived in Coeur d’Alene for 45 years and I love the water! From hiking Tubbs Hill many many times to swimming at Sanders Beach and the dyke road with my children (and now my grandchildren), whenever the temps…
THANKS: Soles and Scouts
If I could take a minute to submit a huge thanks to Eric and Breigh Soles for their generous donation to Boy Scout Troop 218 so scouts could attend NYLT this year. NYLT stands for National Youth Leadership Training…
BASEBALL: Dig deeper, Press
Why is it that you print about the AA and A Coeur d’Alene Legion teams but nothing about the 16u team? They hosted a huge wooden bat tournament and took second against teams from Everrett and Seattle? They even mar…
