OPINION: Just like everyone else, Idaho’s Attorney General must comply with the law
Three years ago, I joined five other former Idaho Attorneys General in describing that important position as “the …
RYAN: GOP no friend to diplomats
We hear a lot of noise from right wing radio about the tragic killing of our ambassador to Libya. What we don’t hear is that Paul Ryan and the Republican Congress have slashed the budget of the state department and…
SCARY: A fun family tradition
The letter written by Faith Normington is utterly ridiculous and shows that some parents shelter their children too much. What will happen when they go out into the “real world” and are exposed to something they ca…
HIGH-RISE: Reasons to just say no
We would like to voice our opposition to the proposed 14-story high-rise on First Avenue and Lakeside and to bring up some questions regarding this project. We feel this project would detract from the quaintness of…
OBAMA: Leading world from behind
Contrary to what the American people were promised in the 2008 presidential campaign by “The Great Unifier,” America’s standing in the world as a world power and as an influence on world affairs is at its lowest po…
SCARY: And degrades women
Faith Normington wrote an interesting letter to the editor. Seems her son (16) and three friends went to Silverwood, this time of year called Scarywood Haunted Nights. Her son came home and told her about some of t…
SCHOOL: Many reasons for thanks
I am thankful for the following:
POLITICS: Liberals howling yet again
First an error correction. In a recent letter I wrote about exhortations being directed “to you and I.” That should have been “to you and me.” My apologies. Old age setting in perhaps. God forbid I should one day b…

COUNTY: Get handle on crime
Residents of Kootenai County, please raise your hand if you have been burglarized or had your vehicle broken into or know someone who has within the last six months. That statistic would amaze you.
HIGHRISE: It's a low blow
When or if the broker did not fully disclose to the developer that he then knew that nearby neighbors would (as discussed with him carefully several years prior), apply stiff opposition including likely lawsuits, i…
JOBS: Yes, the poor pitch in
One of my friends, who recently wrote a column for the newspaper, asked me, “How many poor people have created jobs?” The answer is, “All of them.” Poor and working people buy food, pay rent and contribute 100 perc…
GROWTH: Smaller can be better
I want to express my strong objection to the proposed 14-story building at the corner of First and Lakeside. A building of this magnitude is wrong on many levels. There has been a lot of discussion regarding the fa…
FARRAGUT: A park with pride
I would like to comment on how much I appreciate the changes I am seeing at Farragut State Park. As a frequent day use customer I often take long walks with my dog. As a result of the tree thinning and cleaning up …
VOTERS: An affidavit is OK
A recent press release from the Kootenai County Elections Department neglected to mention that, if voters come to the polls without an ID card, they can still exercise the right to vote by filling out an affidavit …
