Calgary signs Chiefs' Harrington to three-year entry-level contract

The Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League announced Tuesday that they have signed forward Chase Harrington to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Harrington, a Prince George, BC native was named captain of the Spokane Chiefs for 2026-27, opening his campaign with a goal, two assists and a fight to register a "Gordie Howe hat trick" in a 3-2 win over Tri-City last Saturday in Spokane. 

The 18-year-old led Spokane in points during the 2025-26 campaign, posting a career-best 57 points from a team-high 28 goals and 29 assists. Harrington also registered 105 penalty minutes in 61 games last season to lead the team. 

Harrington saw action in his first NHL preseason game earlier this month, skating for the Flames in Seattle last Thursday. He was Calgary’s second round pick (36th overall) at the 2026 NHL Draft.   

The Chiefs said their expectation is that Harrington remains with the Chiefs, until they are told otherwise by Calgary — which could be at any time — if the Flames decide to add him to their NHL roster.

An example of a similar situation with the Chiefs was with Berkly Catton. After the 2023-24 season he was drafted No. 8 overall by the Seattle Kraken. He signed with them, but played with Spokane for the full 2024-25 season, leading the Chiefs to win the Western Conference championship as an 18-year-old. During his 19-year-old season the Kraken ended up playing him his 10 games, which kicks in the entry-level contract, but were so decimated by injuries that they just kept him for the full season.
