Man gets prison for eluding, drug possession

A man who was released from prison just three months before fleeing Coeur d'Alene police in a vehicle and then on foot after crashing has received a new prison sentence, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Charles A. Larmore, 44, pleaded guilty in July to eluding a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm. 

First District Judge Ross Pittman sentenced Larmore last week to 12 years in prison with parole eligibility after four years, allowing for a longer period of supervision if Larmore is released on parole. 

In exchange for Larmore's guilty pleas, prosecutors dismissed charges of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to register a change of address or name as a sex offender and another count of unlawful possession of a firearm. 

The charges stem from June 2026, when a Coeur d'Alene police officer observed Larmore commit several traffic infractions, according to the prosecutor's office. 

When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, prosecutors said Larmore refused to pull over, instead accelerating to a high rate of speed while failing to stop at multiple stop signs before crashing into a tree. 

Larmore exited his vehicle and fled on foot, according to the prosecutor's office. 

Police said Larmore was in possession of methamphetamine and two handguns, which were inside his vehicle. 

Prosecutors said Larmore's criminal history includes prior convictions for sexual conduct with a minor, a sex offender registration violation, grand theft, battery, possession of a controlled substance, burglary and other offenses. According to the prosecutor's office, Larmore was released from prison in March, three months before the incident for which he was sentenced.
