PREP SOCCER: Two top teams, one tie as Vikings, Bulldogs play to draw

COEUR d'ALENE — In a collision of two of the top teams according to the MaxPreps rankings, Saturday's match between top-ranked Coeur d'Alene (in 6A) and Sandpoint (in 5A) on the artificial turf at Viking Field concluded the only way it probably could have.

A draw.

Junior Pax Longanecker scored in the 28th minute for Sandpoint (9-1-2).

Junior Rowan Wyatt scored in the 68th minute for Coeur d'Alene (10-0-1) .

"It's always an intense, competitive match between us," Coeur d'Alene coach Robbie Harmelink said. "They've got a great program and they gave us a fight today. I'm proud of the boys. This kind of intensity isn't something we've seen in a while, and we're going to see it a lot more in the coming weeks." 

"We went toe to toe with them the entire match," Sandpoint coach Dan Anderson said. "Very evenly contested. Our boys absolutely battled for the whole 80 minutes." 

Coeur d'Alene (10-0-1) hosts Upper Columbia Academy of Spangle on Wednesday. 

Sandpoint hosts Lewiston at War Memorial Field on Thursday.

POST FALLS — The Trojans rallied with three goals in the first 17 minutes of the second half, but allowed the go-ahead goal in the 60th minute of a nonleague game at Post Falls High. 

"We made a couple of adjustments at the start of the second half," Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. "We just found a way to build their confidence, and the guys played amazing for the first 20 minutes of the second half. After that, we didn't fight like we had the first 20 minutes. But I was impressed with their effort to draw even." 

Junior Quincy Allred scored in the 57th minute to tie the game for Post Falls (2-7), which hosts Lake City in a 6A Inland Empire League match on Tuesday. 

Owen Lassen had two goals for Moscow (5-8).

RATHDRUM — Senior defender Kaius Lukey hasn't had many goal-scoring chances this year. 

On senior day, he got more than plenty. 

Lukey notched a hat trick for the Hawks in a win over the Dragons of Spokane at Sunrise Rotary Field. 

"We were trying to get more of our seniors chances at a goal," Lakeland coach Nick Haynes said. "We pushed Kaius up in the offense and it opened things up for him. We wanted to get those guys that hadn't had many chances a goal tonight, and it was good to see." 

Seniors Peyton Davis and Eli Cantu — the team's goalkeeper — also scored for Lakeland (6-5), which hosts Moscow next Saturday in the 5A Inland Empire League and regular season finale. 

Saint George's is 2-5.

POST FALLS — Junior Brooks Judd had a goal and two assists for the Panthers in an Intermountain League win over the Bulldogs at The Fields at Real Life.

"I didn't feel that we played very well tonight," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Craig Daigle said. "Our shot selection was subpar, and we lacked connections throughout the night. It was nice to get some of our younger players time though. We need to get back to the training grounds and work out some kinks." 

Coeur d'Alene Charter (9-2-1, 8-0-0 IML) travels to the Coeur d'Alene JV on Monday. 

Grangeville is 5-6, 5-3.

SANDPOINT — The Vikings got first-half goals from Grier Scott and Izzy Grimmett to beat the Bulldogs at War Memorial Field. 

"We looked and played really well, but just need to do a better job of finishing," Coeur d'Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. "We were able to break them down pretty well, but have to be able to get the ball in the back of the net." 

Coeur d'Alene (7-3) travels to Post Falls to conclude the regular season next Saturday. 

Sandpoint (7-5-1) hosts Lake City on Tuesday.

POST FALLS — Sophomore Riley Greene scored four goals for the Panthers in an Intermountain League win over the Bulldogs at The Fields at Real Life.

"We came out ready to get our groove back after a tough loss early in the week," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. "It showed. The girls had fire and grit and some of the technical things we worked on in practice late this week showed up in the game today. Riley was hungry after being out most of the week due to illness and she found the back of the net to make up for it. Very proud of this group and how they handled a physically tough team." 

Coeur d'Alene Charter (8-3-1, 8-2-1 IML) faces the Coeur d'Alene JV on Monday.
