PROP 1: If too political to talk about, shame on you

I am writing to the members of churches who believe it is appropriate for the church to stay out of politics. Are you one of them? I am writing to leaders of churches who believe you shouldn’t talk about politics from the pulpit. Is that you? When the topic of Proposition 1 comes up, I’ve heard the excuse, “My pastor doesn’t do politics.” What?!

This initiative advocates abortion under the guise of healthcare and a mother’s health. Aborting a baby is antithetical to biblical standards. Idaho law already protects a mother whose life is at risk. If you, as a member of the clergy or a congregant, believe that the issue of abortion is too political to talk about, shame on you. Speaking up for the most vulnerable should be shouted from the mountaintops.

If you believe the government should stay out of it, then it should let those on death row go free. Who’s to say killing someone is wrong? There are laws against domestic violence, child abuse, and vehicular homicide. For something as valuable as human life, should it not be protected by law?
