PREP VOLLEYBALL: Post Falls honors six seniors with sweep

POST FALLS — Lucy Carr, one of six seniors honored on senior night, totaled 20 assists as the Post Falls Trojans swept the Lakeland Hawks 25-8, 25-21, 25-10 on Tuesday night at The Arena. 

Freshman Peyton Barclift had 11 kills, 12 digs and three aces for Post Falls (13-3). Senior Teresa Smith had 11 kills and three blocks, Senior Malia Uemoto six kills, sophomore Lucy Smith 11 assists, senior Rylie Gump eight blocks, sophomore Jade Laos seven digs and four aces. 

"Senior night is always such a special and emotional evening, and I could not be prouder of how our entire group showed up to celebrate and play for our seniors," Post Falls coach Casey Cornett said. "We came out with tremendous energy right from the start, controlled our side of the net, and executed at a very high level. Our seniors have meant so much to the foundation and culture of this program, and sending them off with a great performance and a sweep in front of our home crowd was really special." 

For Lakeland (11-7), Jolie Warren had eight kills and two aces, Marissa Benson three blocks, Kindell Day 16 assists, Emma Beaty 10 digs. 

Both teams hit the road for tournaments this weekend — Lakeland at a tourney at Rocky Mountain High in Meridian, Post Falls to the Sheridan-Welch Crossover Classic in Spokane.

Priest River 

PRIEST RIVER — Sophomore Gretah Angle had 15 kills and three aces and senior Jordyn Stutzke had 12 digs for the Wildcats in a 25-20, 25-21, 25-13 in over the Spartans in a Central Idaho League match at Priest River High. 

Senior Paige Yrjana had 11 digs and four blocks, junior Ella Yrjana 22 assists and 10 digs and freshman Valynn Visintainer four blocks for Kellogg (8-0, 6-0 CIL), which hosts Bonners Ferry tonight. 

"They have been our toughest competition so far and we rose to the occasion," Kellogg coach Hollie Yrjana said. "We made adjustments and played smart as a team. We played our best volleyball yet." 

Priest River (6-3, 2-2) hosts Grangeville on Saturday.

Wallace 

WALLACE — The Lumberjacks (6-6) defeated the Miners (4-7) 19-25, 29-27, 25-17, 25-19 in a nonleague match at Kirby Krulitz Court. 

St. Maries hosts Orofino on Thursday. 

Wallace hosts Kootenai Classical Academy of Post Falls on Thursday.

Timberlake 

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — The visiting Tigers were swept by the Cardinals in three tight sets, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23. 

Addie Archer had five kills and 14 digs for Timberlake (5-8). Shae Jones had five kills, four aces and two blocks, Rhylee Yetter five kills, two aces and four digs, Willow Mattson eight assists and 11 digs, Jordyn Parke nine assists. 

"Tonight we tried some new things as we adjust to injuries on the team," Timberlake coach Lisa Gardom said. "Some worked and some didn’t but we served aggressive and went after every ball. At a point where it would have been easy to give up, they came together and battled back from a large deficit. I appreciate their fight even though it didn’t go our way." 

Medical Lake is 5-1. 

Timberlake returns to action next Tuesday at home vs. Bonners Ferry in a key Intermountain League game.

Coeur du Christ 

CLARK FORK — The Saints, in their third season as a full member of the Idaho High School Activities Association, suffered their first loss in North Star League play, 25-16, 25-20, 26-24 to the Wampus Cats. 

Coeur du Christ (8-2, 1-1 NSL) plays host to Mullan on Thursday. 

Clark Fork (10-0, 1-0) is back in the North Star League after playing the last two years in the 2A Scenic Idaho Conference. 

Kootenai Classical

POST FALLS — Freshman Chaimolia Sullivan had six kills and four aces as the host Kodiaks swept the Knights 25-16, 25-15, 25-22. 

Avery Myers added 16 assists and seven aces for Kootenai Classical Academy (6-3), which won its fifth straight match. Maddie Morris had five kills and six digs, Angel Touraille four kills, Abbey Schurter five digs. 

Kootenai Classical travels to Wallace on Thursday. 

Lakeside (2-10) returns to action Monday at home vs. Valor Christian of Sandpoint.
