PREP ROUNDUP: Another record-setting day for Coeur d'Alene girls

GOLF

MOSCOW — Coeur d'Alene's boys notched their first tournament win of the season, and the Viking girls broke their recently set team scoring record en route to a sweep at the Moscow Invitational on Monday at the recently renamed Vandal Golf Course. 

Lake City senior Trey Lambert was boys medalist with a 3-under-par 69. 

Hunter Paquin and Cole Paquin each shot 73 for the Coeur d'Alene boys, who shot 311 for a one-stroke victory over Post Falls. Karl Berend led the Trojans with a 74. 

Tyler Zachary shot 73 for Lakeland, which was third at 319. 

Coeur d'Alene sophomore Emily Stiller was girls medalist with a2-under 70, leading the Vikings to the team title with a 293, 11 strokes better than their previous record set just two weeks ago at McCall. 

"Both the boys and girls had an excellent mentality going into today’s round," Coeur d'Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said. "They were very patient on what can be a very tricky golf course."

COEUR d'ALENE — Junior Samantha Leaverton had a goal and two assists, and the host Timberwolves bounced back from a tough loss Saturday night to blank the Panthers of Spokane in nonleague play. 

Savvy Spencer had five saves in the shutout for Lake City (8-2-0), which lost 1-0 at Coeur d'Alene two days earlier on an own goal. 

"Saturday things were just off," Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said, noting the T-Wolves lost senior starting center back Nell Hutchins in the second minute to an injury. "The thing we wanted to do was share the ball and find the back of the net. Our back line was outstanding today, made the saves easy for Savvy. It was a good result coming off a disappointing Saturday for our group." 

Ruchti brought freshman defender Elle Sousley up from the JV for Monday's game, and "it was a seamless transfer for her; she did outstanding." 

Finley Wright, a midfielder who scored the second goal, dropped back on defense Monday. 

Mead is 3-1-2.

Lake City travels to Lewiston on Thursday.

MOSCOW — Senior Jovie Le had nine kills, four aces and two blocks as the visiting Vikings swept the Bears 25-7, 25-6, 25-8 in Bear Den. 

Maren Larson added seven kills and three blocks for Coeur d'Alene (20-3). Marly Sutich had seven kills, Brielle Basson six kills, Emily Hackett 18 assists, Hannah Shafer 17 assists, Eva Callari nine digs and four aces, Embree McKeown 15 digs, Avery Wilson and Lola Ruggiero two blocks each. 

"It was a great team victory," Coeur d'Alene coach Carly Curtis said. "Every player contributed, stepped up when needed, and played an important part in the win. Our setters distributed the ball really well and our serving was tough. The energy and teamwork from start to finish were incredible to watch. So proud of this group and the way they continue to support and lift each other up." 

Moscow is 0-8. 

Coeur d'Alene plays at Lake City on Wednesday.

COEUR d'ALENE — Senior Kate Moglia had 50 assists, and had the match-winning kill on a setter dump as the host Timberwolves beat the Scotties of Rockford, Wash., 25-20, 25-20, 25-27, 25-19. 

Moglia also had 12 digs, two aces and two blocks for Lake City (14-8). Camryn Woodman had 25 kills, 13 digs and two aces, Ella Jeanselme 15 kills, 10 digs, three aces and three blocks. 

"This was an important win coming off of the weekend that didn’t go as hoped," said Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg, whose squad went 4-5 at the ThunderBee tournament in Idaho Falls. "This group continues to make it a point to stick together and it’s extremely special to be a part of. One of the most unified teams I’ve ever coached. On to a fun one on Wednesday." 

Lake City plays host to Coeur d'Alene on Wednesday.

CLARK FORK — The Wampus Cats defeated the visiting Miners 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21 in a nonleague match.

Chaimolia Sullivan had eight kills, Maddie Morris five kills and five digs for Kootenai Classical Academy (5-3). Angel Touraille had five aces, Abbey Schurter five digs for the Kodiaks.
