Post Falls girl crowned Miss Idaho Jr. Preteen Queen

Post Falls mother Anna Fields could barely describe the feeling of watching her daughter, Emberlyn, be crowned Miss Idaho Junior Preteen Queen at the National American Miss Pageant on Labor Day weekend.

Alongside the crown, Emberlyn won a prize package and a $128,000 scholarship to Midland University.  

“I don’t know how to express what it is,” Anna said. “It's been an amazing journey with her.”

Nine-year-old Emberlyn has been working for months to represent Idaho at the National American Miss Pageant. After her victory in Bellevue, she will now get the opportunity. 

From Nov. 20 to 27, Emberlyn and her family will be in Orlando while she competes against 49 other state queens. Emberlyn said she was excited to reunite with her family during the trip. 

“We are going to drive my whole family there,” she said.

To train for the pageant, Emberlyn had to learn new skills. She said she had to learn how to walk properly on-stage and when to look at the judges.

She said one of her favorite parts of the training was learning how to act, something she could see herself doing in the future. 

“That is my dream, I want to be an actor,” she said. 

Emberlyn said her favorite actress was Francesca Capaldi, from the Disney Channel show “Dog with a Blog.”

Anna said it has been amazing to watch Emberlyn grow during the process. She said she has completely opened up since taking on the challenge. 

“I’ve been very proud of her through this whole thing,” she said. “To see her grow and come out of her shell.” 

Anna credits much of Emberlyn’s development to her participation in the National American Miss Pageant. 

“She’s had to learn some really cool skills as far as just being really confident in herself and who she is,” Anna said. 

Emberlyn has gained interview and public speaking skills, among others. Emberlyn also raised funds to pay the entrance fee.

Emberlyn said it was “scary at first” having to step out of her comfort zone. She said talking to so many new people was frightening, especially when asking them for a sponsorship

“I was scared to go get sponsors for the first time,” she said. “Now, I am not afraid to talk to anyone.”    

Emberlyn and Anna were grateful to everyone who supported Emberlyn in the process and wanted to especially thank Discovery of Learning Academy in Hayden and Northern Dance Academy for their sponsorships.
