John and Nancy Darlas

In Loving Memory of John and Nancy Darlas. John Darlas, Feb. 27, 1935 – Aug. 28, 2026; Nancy Darlas, July 3, 1939 – Feb. 13, 2025. 

John and Nancy Darlas shared a life built on family, faith, friendship, service and a deep love for the outdoors. John was a native of the Coeur d’Alene area. Nancy was born in Nebraska and moved to Rathdrum in the 1950’s. Their paths came together, and they married Nov. 15, 1957, in Coeur d’Alene, where they made their home and raised their four children. John proudly served his country as a field artillery surveyor in Korea from 1954 to 1956. In 1974, he started Darlas Logging, where he had the opportunity to work alongside both of his sons. Nancy devoted herself to her home and family. She shared her talents for cooking and sewing with her children, creating a home filled with warmth and love. Most of all, she shared her deep love for the Lord and the values that guided her life with her family. 

John joined the Rathdrum Lions Club in the 1960s, where he was introduced to trap shooting. What began as a new interest grew into a lifelong passion John and Nancy shared. They traveled throughout Idaho, Washington, Canada, Montana and Oregon, volunteering and competing at trap clubs along the way. Their dedication to their clubs and communities earned them recognition and honors for their volunteerism. More importantly, their years of involvement brought them a circle of lifelong friends who became like family. 

They often spent weekends together with their children, whether at the trap club, hunting or fishing. John and Nancy’s love for the outdoors became a treasured part of their family legacy and was passed down to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John and Nancy leave behind a lasting legacy of faith, family, hard work, service, friendship and love of the outdoors. They are survived by their four children: Julie Carney, Steve Darlas, Stan Darlas and Kathi Best, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Their greatest accomplishments were not found in trophies, businesses or honors, but in the family they built, the friendships they treasured and the love they gave so freely. Their memory will live on through the many lives they touched and through the generations of their family who carry their legacy forward.
