SANDPOINT — Senior Maddox Lindquist scored a touchdown on offense and defense, and the visiting Coeur d’Alene Vikings scored the game’s first 20 points en route to a 44-14 victory over the Sandpoint Bulldogs on Friday night at Barlow Stadium.

Lindquist scored on an interception return late in the first quarter to give Coeur d’Alene (5-0), ranked No. 2 in 6A by Max Preps, a 13-0 lead.

After Sandpoint (4-1), ranked No. 3 in 5A by MaxPreps, got on the board with an 80-yard run by Trenton Cross to pull within 20-7, Lindquist scored on an 80-yard catch-and-run from Tannar Stern, and it was 28-7 at the half.

"We were very sloppy, a lot of penalties. We've got to clean those up; that was inexcusable," Coeur d’Alene coach Shawn Amos said. "Proud of our boys and the fact that we were decimated with sickness this week and they responded and battled. It was a tough week of our kids being sick, so a problem there, but the sloppy play we have to be better.

"It's a discipline issue, right? We've talked to them about it all the time, so it's really on them," Amos said on how to fix the 100 yards of penalties. "It's got to be more important to them. I mean down the road we play some tough teams, and those are going to cost you."

Stern threw a pair of touchdown passes, including a 48-yarder to Jackson Schillinger after escaping the rush to open the scoring. Stern also scored on runs of 4 and 43 yards.

"He's grown a lot as a quarterback, super proud, he's tough as nails," Amos said of Stern. "The best thing about the offense is we've got a number of guys that can make plays, so that helps."

Frankie Lopez booted a 27-yard field goal to open the scoring in the third quarter for Coeur d’Alene, and Bear Coleman capped the scoring with a 14-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Coeur d’Alene travels to Lewiston next Friday.
