PROP ONE: Worse than Roe vs. Wade

As a woman that came of age in the late 60s and early 70s, I witnessed a young woman from my neighborhood who struggled with the results of free love. Let’s call her Tammy. Tammy was in love, engaged, pregnant, and a junior in high school.

Tammy did what many young women did, she consulted Planned Parenthood. Not seeking to end her pregnancy, but only support in completing high school with a baby, the clinic’s only advice was abortion. The pressure was overwhelming. Her fiancé’s parents sent him to the military and his support was gone. She felt alone and helpless.

Fortunately, Tammy met a nurse who told her she had options. Abortion was not inevitable because of a teenage pregnancy. Adoption was an option. After many tears, Tammy decided to give her child life, and a life with a couple who desperately wanted to cherish a child.

Thirty years later, Tammy met her child, now a successful adult. She was thankful.

Now in 2026, we are faced with Proposition 1. Worse than Roe vs. Wade. It allows abortion up to 37 weeks, no physician required, and no parental knowledge needed. Idaho law says if a baby can survive, a doctor must try to save it. Prop 1 deletes that.

If Prop 1 passes, Tammy could visit a clinic without a doctor, without her parents’ knowledge, and even at seven months pregnant, get an abortion. She’d never know the joy of giving life and would have to live with psychological damage for the rest of her life.

Please vote no on Prop 1.
