PREP VOLLEYBALL: Day, Warren power Lakeland to 5A IEL sweep
RATHDRUM — Senior Kindell Day had 20 assists, nine kills and seven aces as the 5A Inland Empire League-leading Lakeland Hawks swept the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs 25-14, 25-15, 25-23 on Thursday night at Hawk Court.
Senior Jolie Warren added 14 kills for Lakeland (11-6, 3-0 5A IEL). Anabel Bowie had six aces and four blocks, Jaeli Hoffman 17 assists, Emma Beaty 18 digs, Shasta Ackerman 11 digs.
“Great win tonight for our girls,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Our seniors stepped up and shined, continuing to show the consistency, strength, and leadership they bring to this team. I’m so proud of the way our entire team competed, stayed focused, and played hard from start to finish. A three-set win is a great way to finish our homecoming week.”
Lakeland beat Moscow on Tuesday and Lewiston on Sept. 8, all at home. The Hawks visit all three league schools within an eight-day span in October.
Sandpoint is 3-6, 1-1.
Lakeland travels to Post Falls on Tuesday.

Timberlake
BONNERS FERRY — The host Badgers captured the final two sets for a 21-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-14, 15-13 victory over the Tigers in the Intermountain League opener.
“We’ve had to work around some injuries this season and today was no different,” Timberlake coach Lisa Gardom said. “One of our starting middles and leading blocker, Shae Jones, had to pull out due to injury 5 minutes before the match. We pivoted and made adjustments to the lineup and battled with a fired-up Bonners Ferry team. They never let up and that created a really great matchup.”
Junior Addie Archer had 11 kills, 17 digs and seven aces for Timberlake (5-7). Layla Webb had seven kills, six blocks and four aces, Willow Mattson 14 assists and five digs, Jordyn Parke 11 assists and five digs, Abby Harden 13 digs.
Bonners Ferry is 4-4.
“We fell short with our serves at some key moments,” Gardom said. “Although the final outcome didn’t go our way, the team pulled together and really played hard. I’m proud of every one of them and the resilience they showed tonight.”
The rematch is Sept. 29 at Timberlake.
Timberlake travels to Medical Lake on Tuesday.

ST. MARIES — Senior Raevyn Yearout had 13 kills, 20 digs, six aces and seven assists as the host Lumberjacks posted their first league win since the 2023 season, beating the Bulldogs 25-12, 18-25, 25-18, 23-15, 15-12 in Central Idaho League play.
Dimercia Spooner added 12 kills, seven digs, three assists and two aces for St. Maries (5-6, 1-2 CIL). Meijah Yearout had eight kills, 13 digs, five aces and three assists, Lyssa Watkins 33 assists, Sadie Jones five kills, six digs, three assists and two aces, Bristal Thorhaug nine digs and three assists, Letty Smith four kills and two aces.
Grangeville is 0-8, 0-4.
St. Maries travels to Wallace on Tuesday.

Priest River
KELLOGG — Sophomore Gretah Angle totaled 17 kills, 10 digs and two aces visiting Spartans 25-20, 25-13, 25-12.
Ella Yrjana had 34 assists and two aces for Kellogg (7-0, 5-0 CIL). Paige Yrjana had nine digs and two aces, and was 21 for 21 on serving. Jordyn Stutzke had 14 digs, Valynn Visintainer five blocks.
"We played good volleyball tonight,” Kellogg coach Hollie Yrjana said. “Priest made us earn every point and put up a great battle at the net. There were some great rallies tonight and I loved how we never gave up on balls and worked well as a team.”
Priest River is 6-2, 2-1.
Kellogg travels to Priest River on Tuesday.

WALLACE — The host Miners swept the Jaguars 25-6, 25-7, 25-12 in Scenic Idaho Conference play at Kirby Krulitz Court.
Wallace (4-5, 2-0 SIC) plays host to St. Maries on Tuesday.
“Overall the girls played extremely well regardless of what the score says,” Genesis Prep coach Jessica Moore said. “I’m very proud.”

Avery Myers added five kills, 15 assists and five digs for Kootenai Classical (4-3), and Jane Sana had five digs.
On Monday, Kootenai Classical plays host to Genesis Prep, and Lakeside travels to Bonners Ferry.

Kootenai is 3-5.
