Centennial Trail section to close for construction

A portion of the Centennial Trail will be closed for construction from Sept. 23 to Oct. 14, according to the Kootenai County Department of Parks and Waterways.
The trail will be closed for two miles, beginning at Pleasantview Road in Post Falls and extending east toward Spokane Street. The county says the closure is necessary to replace the deteriorating asphalt trail surface for the public's benefit.
Nick Snyder, Parks and Waterways Director, confirmed that the project will cost $280,051. Kootenai County, the cities of Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene, the North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation and a state recreational grant funded the project.
The trail is estimated to be used annually by around 800,000 people.
Earlier this year, a $260,000 resurfacing project targeted the final few miles of the Centennial Trail as it leaves Idaho and heads into Washington state.
Poe Asphalt Paving of Post Falls completed the work, primarily funded by a $150,000 Recreational Trails Program grant and $100,000 in matching grant funds from the Joint Powers Board, which includes the cities of Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene, Kootenai County and the foundation.
The trail is used by thousands of bikers, runners, skaters and walkers each year and has an estimated annual economic impact of about $3 million.
