Group raises money to protect Hayden Lake

Over 100 guests enjoyed an evening of dinner, dancing and drinks at a "paddleraiser" for the Hayden Lake Watershed Association on Aug. 23. The event featured an auction that benefited education and ecosystem preservation programs at the Hayden Lake Country Club.
"Nothing is more meaningful to our group than the enjoyment we all have on the lake. It is a special place, and we want to make sure it remains that way for our children and into the future," said Hayden Lake Yacht Club Commodore Catherine Reynolds.
Reynolds said HLWA does important work for the lake.
"With the money raised, they’ll have the means to continue,” she said.
Funds will also go to support the third year of “Healthy Hayden Creek," an initiative that uses reclaimed timbers pulled from the lake to rebuild the damaged banks of Hayden Creek, eventually reducing the sediment that reaches the lake.
HLWA projects include funding a lake host to prevent the introduction of invasive mussels and weeds and providing educational efforts to raise awareness of excessive wake activities that erode shorelines, damage property and negatively affect water quality.
The yacht club crew decorated the country club with a Treasure Island theme, and Dr. Phil and the Enablers provided music.
