Each December, the Shotwell family brings Christmas joy and nostalgic memories to the Coeur d'Alene Christmas Show at the Coeur d'Alene Resort. This year, Jenny and Dalton Shotwell are inviting members of the public to submit their own Christmas memories from the early 1960s for a chance to be part of the beloved annual performance.

This year's show is titled My Favorite Things, and its theme is Coeur d'Alene Christmas between 1960 and 1965. As always, the annual Coeur d'Alene Christmas Show will feature plenty of music. This year's musical numbers come from several 1960s productions, including The Sound of Music, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and A Charlie Brown Christmas.

“We will have lots of music, lots of funny stories and lots of tender moments,” Jenny Shotwell said.

This is the first year the Shotwells have invited members of the public to contribute to the show. They hope to find stories that capture the spirit of Coeur d'Alene Christmas traditions in the early 1960s, including community events, memorable experiences and special family traditions.

“We love Coeur d'Alene, and we love getting to represent pieces of Coeur d'Alene history,” Shotwell said. “Getting to hear from people who were present during that time is very special.”

Selected stories will be performed during the show by members of the Shotwell family as first-person monologues. Submissions should have a clear narrative and may be humorous, nostalgic or a mix of both.

“We are looking for something that feels like a story you would read around the dinner table,” Shotwell said.

Selected submissions will each receive two complimentary tickets to a performance of their choice. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 19, but the Shotwells will accept late submissions through the end of the month.

Submit stories in person at the Coeur d'Alene Resort concierge desk or by email at [email protected]. For questions, contact Jenny Shotwell at [email protected].
