PREP SOCCER: Vikings push past Trojans in 6A IEL play

POST FALLS — Senior attacker Isaac Lowder recorded a hat trick and junior Blake Baune had two goals and an assist for the Coeur d’Alene Vikings in an 8-0 win over the Post Falls Trojans in a 6A Inland Empire League match at Post Falls High on Tuesday. 

“We’ve been blessed with a really talented junior and senior group,” Coeur d’Alene coach Robbie Harmelink said. “With their experience from the high school to club level, it’s worked really well for us this year. They know where each other is going to be and they’re playing really selfless soccer right now, which is good to see.” 

“We started seven sophomores, and we just struggled keeping up with the speed of the game,” Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. “Coeur d’Alene is a really technical group, and leaves you no breathing room. And it’s very difficult to play against that with a young team.” 

Coeur d’Alene (7-1, 2-0 6A IEL) travels to Lake City on Saturday. 

Post Falls (1-5, 0-2) faces Lewiston on Saturday at The Fields in Post Falls. 

“Our goal was to get in there and develop against one of the best teams in the state,” Lawson said. “We took it as an opportunity to test ourselves and see where we can improve. Coeur d’Alene is a well put-together team.”

COEUR d’ALENE — Elijah Lorhan-Lewis scored the game-winner on an assist from senior Oliver Soumis in the second half, lifting the Timberwolves past the Bears at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex at Lake City High. 

“First and foremost, I want to thank our seven seniors on senior night — James Dunn, Clint Harwood, Oliver Soumis, Joshua Stewart, Vann Tate, Henry Weimer-Earnest and Reese Crandall — for everything they’ve given to our program,” Lake City coach Chaz Donovan said. “Their commitment, leadership and character have shaped this team. Tonight wasn’t the cleanest game, but the boys fought through adversity and came out on top. With several injuries, our next-man-in mentality showed up in a big way. Players stepped up, filled multiple roles, and did whatever the team needed. I’m proud of this group and the way they continue to respond.” 

Lake City (5-4) hosts Coeur d'Alene on Saturday.

LEWISTON — Senior Tomas Castillo, playing his second game of the season, scored on a header off a corner kick for the Hawks in a 5A Inland Empire League win over the Bengals at the P1FCU Athletic Complex at Lewiston High.

“Tomas just got his 10 practices in and played on Saturday as a defensive midfielder,” said Lakeland coach Nick Haynes of Castillo, who turned out late this season. “It was a nice goal for us.” 

Junior Cole Zlateff scored in the 15th minute for Lakeland (5-3, 2-1 5A IEL), which travels to Moscow on Saturday. 

“We’re starting to get better possession in the midfield, and the guys are getting better,” Haynes said. “It was a good win for us.” 

Lewiston is 3-5, 1-2.

MOSCOW — Senior Chole Burkholder recorded a hat trick for the Timberwolves, who scored six goals in the second half of a nonleague win over the Bears at the Moscow School District Community Playfields. 

“When you travel to Moscow or Lewiston, historically we’ve struggled with really good teams getting off the bus,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “We had as many opportunities in the second half as the first, but we were more clinical in front of the frame. In the second half, when we rotated players, we picked up the pace, which was good to see.” 

Junior Ava Roberts had two goals for Lake City (7-1), which travels to Coeur d’Alene on Saturday. 

Moscow is 5-2-1.

RATHDRUM — Addi Forsman’s goal in the 59th minute helped the host Hawks earn a draw with the Bengals in 5A Inland Empire League play at Sunrise Rotary Field. 

Lakeland (2-3-3, 1-1-3 5A IEL) and Lewiston (1-6-2, 1-2-2) also played to a tie in the season opener, 3-3. 

“I’m so proud of the way our girls have been playing as a team,” Lakeland coach Allison Guy said. “And great teamwork by two of our captains, Kapree Kiefer and Addi Forsman, getting a goal into the back of the net. Both of them were playing in positions they don’t typically play in, and they both executed beautifully.” 

Lakeland plays host to Moscow on Saturday.
