Six died in Kootenai County during 100 deadliest days

Six people died in crashes in Kootenai County between Memorial Day and Labor Day, according to preliminary data from the Idaho Office of Highway Safety.

Only four Idaho counties saw more fatal crashes during the “100 deadliest days” of summer. There were 13 deaths in Ada County, 10 in Bonneville County, eight in Bonner County and seven in Canyon County. 

Statewide, 90 people died in crashes during those 100 days. Idaho has recorded 150 fatalities year-to-date, compared to 174 at this point in 2025. 

“Every one of these deaths impact their families forever,” said Josephine Middleton, Highway Safety Manager. “We can save lives and prevent serious injuries by consistently choosing safety first: buckle up, stay focused, drive sober, and slow down. Our aim is to keep Idaho families intact.” 

According to the Office of Highway Safety, the top contributing factors to these fatal crashes are no seat belt, failure to maintain lane, alcohol impairment, drug impairment, inattention, crossing the centerline, speed and failure to obey a stop sign, signal or yield.
