65th Anniversary

Thomas and Dixie Reid

Tom and Dixie were married Sept. 9, 1961, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d'Alene. They are the proud parents of Toni Reid Capaul, Raini Reid Cherry of Coeur d'Alene and Michael of Dania Beach, Fla. Grandchildren include: Adam Capaul, Alex Capaul, Reilly Cherry, Tarryn Cherry Finke Reagan Cherry, Avrey Cherry and Jake Reid. Great-grandchildren, Maddux Capaul, McCoix Capaul, Porter Capaul, Depson Capaul and Maguire Capaul.

Their family history in Cd'A began in 1898 when John Reid purchased land from the railroad encompassing the area from Fourth Street to Seventh Street and from Reid to Montana streets. To this day, it is known as Reid Addition on city maps. Dixie's paternal grandfather arrived here in 1904 to work at the Blackwell Lumber Company, located on Blackwell Island at the time.

Tom and Dixie owned many businesses over the years including a bowling alley, a convenience store/gas station, several finish carpentry companies, a shopping service and an interior design firm. Dixie was Coeur d'Alene's first female city councilwoman and served for 26 years. Tom, a talented finish carpenter, worked on many of the large custom homes on the lake and all around the Coeur d'Alene area.
