'Weaver' nominations to close in coming weeks
There are fewer than two weeks left to nominate a local "Weaver" through Innovia's Weave: The Social Fabric Project initiative. Innovia defines a “Weaver” as someone who builds relationships, creates belonging and helps communities work together to address shared challenges.
They can start and run projects like public meals in the park or foster a community garden.
“Community builders — what we call weavers — are the people who bring others together, bridge gaps and create a sense of belonging,” said Britt Towery, North Idaho regional engagement director for the Innovia Foundation. “Their work often happens behind the scenes, but it is this quiet, steady effort of caring for each other that truly defines who we are in Kootenai County and across the region.”
Innovia’s initiative, created in partnership with Weave: The Social Fabric Project, addresses social isolation, division and declining societal trust. As one of the first Community Hosts selected for the nationwide program, Innovia is leading the Weaver Awards in Kootenai County.
The initiative recognizes local people and organizations whose work strengthens relationships and brings communities closer together. Nominations opened June 15, close Sept. 14, and 20 individuals or organizations will receive $2,500 microgrants at the Weaver Awards celebration in November 2026.
According to Innovia, Weavers have four key qualities:
• They bring neighborhoods, towns or regions together.
• They create projects where everyone has an opportunity to participate and benefit.
• They welcome others and help people feel included.
• They maintain ongoing projects that allow relationships to grow stronger over time.
Residents can support the initiative by sharing information about the awards, highlighting local weavers, nominating an individual or organization, or hosting a community gathering focused on connection and service.
“At Innovia, we exist to ignite generosity that transforms lives and communities. That generosity goes far beyond financial contributions,” said Molly Sanchez, chief community investment officer for the Innovia Foundation. “It shows up in service and care for others. Recognizing those who lead with that spirit is essential because it honors their impact and helps inspire a stronger, more connected community.”
