Local author to offer 'Enchanting Mexico' journey
COEUR d’ALENE — Five novel-inspiring places in Mexico will be the focus of “Enchanting Mexico,” a presentation Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.
Author David Kilmer will share photographs and stories from Volcán de Colima, Careyes, Barra de Navidad, Las Grutas de Tolantongo and Mexico City, all places featured in his latest novel, "The Most Dangerous Curve."
The presentation, part of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Foundation’s Novel Destinations series, will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the library’s Community Room.
Published in March, "The Most Dangerous Curve" is a road-trip romance set in Mexico in 1985. It follows a Texas oilman who heads south and finds himself on an unexpected journey through the country, chasing romance and redemption along the way.
Kilmer will talk about the real places behind the fictional journey, including an active volcano in western Mexico, the Pacific coast at Careyes and Barra de Navidad, the hot springs and canyon landscape of Las Grutas de Tolantongo, and Mexico City.
“This book is my love letter to Mexico, where we have a home and have traveled extensively,” Kilmer said. “I’ll be sharing the side of Mexico we’ve discovered that’s far from the bright lights of the resort towns.”
Kilmer is a Coeur d’Alene-area author and professional boat captain. His writing often draws on travel and firsthand experience, and "The Most Dangerous Curve" is his fifth book.
“Enchanting Mexico” begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the Community Room at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave. The program is for adults. Refreshments will be available. A $10 donation to the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Foundation is welcome.
