Idaho gas prices fall

Idaho drivers are saving a little money as they fuel up for Halloween fun this week, but scary prices could be just around the corner.

According to AAA, Monday’s average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the Gem State is $4.67, 13 cents less than a week ago and 33 cents less than a month ago, but $1.27 more than a year ago.

The national average sits at $4.28 per gallon, which is a penny cheaper than a week ago and 20 cents less than a month ago, but $1.23 more than a year ago. Idaho dropped from 7th to 9th place in the country for the most expensive fuel.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Coeur d'Alene on Monday was $ 4.37.

On Monday, the West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude was trending above $102 per barrel.

“The crude market is under intense pressure, with conflict and uncertainty driving higher prices for a major product that powers the global economy,” says Matthew Conde, AAA Idaho public affairs director. “Gas prices may be falling right now, but the climbing cost of crude is impossible to ignore.”

As nations scramble to ship and access crude oil, pump prices could be very shifty this week. With emergency crude releases over the past several weeks, the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve is also nearing the low end of operating thresholds, further complicating market forecasts.

Here’s a look at Idaho gas prices: Boise, $4.71; Franklin, $4.63; Idaho Falls, $4.63; Lewiston, $4.40; Pocatello, $4.61; and Twin Falls, $4.71.
