HOUSING: Better pay, not cheaper homes
“I would prefer to focus on high paying jobs to afford the homes. That’s a better approach.” Cd’A Mayor Gookin
[Erku, Ray. “Tiny homes, big headaches: Dwelling units still prohibited within Coeur d’Alene limits.” Coeur d’Alene Press, Oct. 25, 2026 pp. A1-A3.].
Mayor Gookin is absolutely right! City Council member Kiki Miller’s aspirations are admirable but wrong. Enacted council policies to bring down the costs of housing actually reduce market incentives to produce housing availability. Enacted council policies to entice job creators to our community will incentivize local job competition that will boost employment growth and the salaries that make housing affordable. That is a better approach, so let’s spend our limited time there.
